The Father Difference

Faith Over Fear: Navigating Election Night as a Christian Parent

Ed Tandy McGlasson

Send us a text

Pastor Ed explores how Christian parents should navigate election tensions while maintaining their primary identity as followers of Christ and leaders of their families. Using Psalm 2 as a foundation, he reminds us that God laughs at the nations' rage while remaining firmly in control.

• God's hierarchy places family above government – not the other way around
• Psalm 2 reveals God's perspective on political turmoil: "He who sits in heaven laughs"
• Political differences should never override family relationships
• Practical steps for reconciling with family members divided by politics
• The great commandment has an order: love God first, then neighbor as yourself
• Our children are watching how we respond to election results
• Pre-forgive those who may have wounded you with political attacks
• Don't "spike the football" if your candidate wins – extend compassion instead
• The church must not stay silent on important social issues
• Our true identity is in Christ, not in our political affiliations

Speaker 2:

Hey, well, welcome. It's good to see you. Good to see you, irene. We have friends popping in here on our Instagram feed as well, and so grateful that you're here. Yes, praise the Lord, we praise you and exalt you. Heavenly Father, we know you're always in complete control. Let your kingdom come, your perfect will be done. In the mighty name of Jesus, I'm grateful that you're with me here on one of these crazy nights that we have and but, marian, good to see you. Welcome on Instagram. And we get people popping in and on X we got people watching tonight. Everywhere except for TikTok. We're everywhere and excited about this next season that we have, because dads and moms in the land, if you've got questions or praise reports, make sure you definitely shoot me an email. I would love to hear that and respond to you tonight in the best ways that I can.

Speaker 2:

Prayer request. Justin Corwin, welcome here. Let me know where you're calling in from. Where are you coming from, irene? And we're going to get kind of. The title of what we're going to pray about and talk about is the family and how. God's world and the choice is always family over government, but it's first priority in everything. His first thing that he did was put Adam and Eve together to build culture, build family, people to what we have today, and how many would say that this is the craziest election and back and forth that they've ever seen in their lifetime? Give me a shout out, maybe a message or text. I probably don't even need to get your hands in this, but it is. I think it's really important. So, oh, we got somebody from Baytown, texas. Welcome Irene.

Speaker 2:

I love Texas. I remember some fond memories of going in forgive me when I say this to defeat the Cowboys in the old stadium there Back in my day playing in the National Football League. I have fond memories of beating them, but you know, if you're from Texas, they cheat. I mean, they have a way they cheat in Dallas that's just very sinister and that is they put these beautiful Texas girls right behind the benches of the opposing team with their pom-poms and their tight outfits. And I remember both times that we went into Dallas that the coach, all this time on this sideline during a football game, as we were competing against the Dallas Cowboys, trying to get the players to turn around and watch the game, it's amazing how many guys went back to the water bottle Because they were like, oh, hey, yay, of course. The cheerleaders were like, hey, big boy. They were like, oh, hey, yay, of course. The Chilies were like, hey, big boy, and that was their secret weapon there that they used. And Tom Landry, he was the one where it came in there.

Speaker 2:

But I love Texas, I love our country, I love what God has given us to be a part of, and so tonight I want to take the prayer request, but at the same time I think we should just pray. This election is underway and there are people making their decision, whatever the final decision is of the night, and I have a scripture that I want to read you, that I've been chewing on all week and it's really what's more true than any news service about what does God really think about all these things? And if you got your Bible tonight, turn to chapter 2. That's Psalm chapter 2. Turn in your Scripture to Psalm chapter 2. Hey, pj, welcome tonight. And you know you think about how God sees these things. Elections are incredibly important and if you're of, you know, calling from texas, I guess the polls are closed there and they're closing all around the country. But you know, when we have these uncertain times. It's really important—one star welcome, 22, one star—it's really important of how we, as fathers and mothers, position ourselves in understanding what God is saying with all these things that are going on, because what needs to happen after this election is over is we have an incredible amount of repair that we've got to do, sometimes with neighbors, with family members.

Speaker 2:

I've been coaching Welcome, justin Rhonda Montana, welcome. I've been coaching a lot of families and a lot of guys, a lot of gals, and it's one of our nation's finest there a retired military that teaches people how to defend themselves. It's a powerful thing. You want gun training. You live in Montana. You need to get to Justin Carlton and maybe my system will pop in a way to get a hold of him. He's really amazing. He took me shooting when I was there, taught me how to shoot the knives out of a gnat at 1,000 yards with a handgun. Of course, we never saw him at 1,000 yards. So, anyway, let's look at all the things that—the way God sees this election.

Speaker 2:

Psalm chapter 2. I'm going to read this with you, so grab your Bible and just read this together. It says and this is David hearing from the Lord in the midst of all the craziness and all the people. Welcome, paul. And is that April Moraldi there? Welcome. Or Abby, great to have you tonight on the Father Difference, live.

Speaker 2:

But Psalm chapter 2, verse 1, says why do the nations rage and people plot in vain, the kings of the earth set themselves In vain. The kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together, sound familiar. Against the Lord, against his anointed saying Boy, there is a time, more than ever—welcome Paul— that the church of Jesus is under assault, it's under attack. There's a barrage of wickedness that's on display, unfortunately, from a group, a political group that used to be Democrats. I mean, the Democratic Party has always been for the poor. I have a lot of great Democratic friends that I love to death, but they've been in a huge quandary because the party sending a petition to the Lord during just a crazy time when all the nations have risen up against him as an anointed king His sons are. You know Absalom has created rebellion. You know his own kingdom is being shaken. Welcome Dylan, marian, welcome tonight.

Speaker 2:

And he writes this psalm to the Lord. And where God then begins to speak. And if you read the book of Psalms, you'll see the problem that David or the sons of Korah write about. And then God speaks and brings a solution and the kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord, against his anointing, saying Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from among us. I just think it's just fascinating to me. I just think it's just fascinating to me.

Speaker 2:

But how true and biblical it is, especially in political elections, how quickly politicians try to demonize and destroy the other person. And this group that's against Israel wants to dismantle the Word of God, wants to dismantle the people of Israel and say we want to burst their bonds of power, cast away their cords, those things that are keeping us back from being wicked. All these other nations, we want them gone. They're raging, they're raging against us and it's interesting and I found this to be true in ministry you never really hear from demons until you pass them out and on their way out they're screaming. They're screaming, they're screaming, they're making all kinds of noise to try to scare you. When Jesus did what we have done and prayed for people on their way out, they're making serious noise because they're losing a bondage in a person, they're losing control in a life. They're being exposed by the light of Jesus. And when Jesus comes, in any situation, he opens the door to his kingdom. And so it goes on. And here's his people trying.

Speaker 2:

And then verse 4, and then he describes what God is saying. And this is what God is saying to the wicked who, in a real way, are trying to move the government into the number one position in the hierarchy of power over the fathers, over the mothers, over your children, over your grandchildren, and they want to be the ones to make the decision over your family. That's the wickedness of our day. That's why voting in this election was absolutely essential for the people of God. My prayer is that we would be the church and we would vote. We vote because it's the right thing to do and it's part of the structure of our government to have a say, and we'll see what the results are and we'll really see where the hunger of our country is. At the end of the night, either we want more righteousness, or we want God in our life, or we don't care. We want to put in the person that we want. We'll see what happens.

Speaker 2:

But he who sits in heaven? Look at verse 4. He who sits in heaven laughs. He's talking about the Father, son and Holy Spirit. He who sits in heaven laughs. The Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath and terrify them in his fury, saying as for me, I have set my king on Zion, my holy hill. God's response to this offers and God's response to those who want to cast away any restriction on morality where everything goes. God says she who sits in heaven laughs at you, but ask for me.

Speaker 2:

David writes. God says ask for me. I've set my king on Zion, my holy hill. God's already worked out the cure for us and I will tell the decree. The Lord said to me you are my son. Here's a reference to Messiah, right here in the book of Psalms Jesus, the Messiah, and also through the ultimate identity that God's called you and me for. He says I will decree. And the Lord said to me you are my son. Today I have begotten you. He's talking about the king that he is setting on Mount Zion, on God's holy hill. Today I have begotten you. Ask of me and I will make the nations your heritage and the ends of the earth your possession.

Speaker 2:

You know it's interesting that the Bible says eye has not seen, nor ear, has even heard, what God will do for those who go to Him in prayer and ask Him. Are you exhausting all the resources of heaven because you pray big for God to come through in big ways over you, your children, your grandchildren, your family you want to welcome Welcome to. Robert Hardy Welcome, and Rubens Steel Run Welcome tonight. Are you exhausting that in your own prayer life? Because here's what I've learned about prayer.

Speaker 2:

You know when Jesus said when he's talking about prayer, he says how many of you, as a father, if your son comes to you and asks you for a piece of bread, are you going to give him a rock? Well, no, you wouldn't do that as a dad, especially a grandpa. How many of you if he asked you for a piece of? You know fish, some food, right, you know. And if you know how to do, he said how many of you? Your grandson asked you for a piece of and you give him a snake? Of course we wouldn't do that. We wouldn't do that at all.

Speaker 2:

The reason we wouldn't do that is because we love him and you know they're in our family, they're in our lives because of the extraordinary gift of God giving us children and our life, of course, how to give good gifts to your children on earth. How much more will my Heavenly Father give than he tells us? Holy Spirit, for those who ask the answer to our lives, the answer to this craziness in the world, to selection, to result and even winning your friends, we're going to talk about and repairing those relationships. It's all about who's thing you have and it's also all about us and others learning how to ask God for more for the sake of our children. We're getting a lot of party balloons tonight Must have done this or something that makes the party go on the computer. But how much you're really asking God for the things you need as a dad and as a mom, for the sake of your kids?

Speaker 2:

The enemy might be up to what he's doing, but the one who sits in heaven laughs. They might want to break the cords away from mom and dad and have you cut the string. Of course it's not the purse strings. They still want you to take care of them financially. Maybe they're wandering over their loss and we're going to pray for them as well.

Speaker 2:

Tonight God's up to something I don't think. The best day of our church here in America is coming. I believe our best days are coming and our ability to be salt and light in a time where people are being consumed and overwhelmed by darkness. How many of your friends do you know have slipped farther into alcoholism, have slipped farther into drugs, have lost their kids, never lost their families? How many men do you know who have run away from their responsibility and their children, only to suffer in the shadows, in guilt and shame, being pushed back?

Speaker 2:

Well, the God in heaven who laughs at what the enemy's plan is is to take you, my friend, mom or dad, from your kids or grandma or grandfather, his age number, because he has set his king on the throne and it says as for me, I will make nations your heritage. That's what Jesus is after. He's after taking us this salt away and putting it everywhere that he can. You will break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's wheel. The weapons of warfare, god said, are not carnal, but they're mighty. We're pulling down strongholds and what happens is when we walk in the light, as he is in the light, something transforms inside of us.

Speaker 2:

Everywhere you go, no matter where you go, god is showing up around you and he is bothering people around you who live in darkness without you even opening your mouth. We should never apologize for bothering the world if it makes you feel uncomfortable in your life, but we should be bothered when we're afraid or we've been pushed back by the crazy woke virus that's out in the world today. That was dreamed up by a bunch of orphans who don't know who they are and they're trying to affect everything to make everything a safe place. Well, when you live in sin, you'll never be safe. The safest place that we can have is being right, smack dab in the middle of God's presence and his love. Serve him with fear, verse 11.

Speaker 2:

This is our part. Rejoice with trembling. Serve him with fear. It's not being afraid of God, it's with the word fear there actually means. With such awesome respect and gratitude for what he has done in your life, you are willing to do whatever it takes to stand up for God in front of people and love them.

Speaker 2:

Judy Kortok, welcome. Hi. We love you back down south, south of the border, and love her and the incredible life and faith she's lived for Christ for so many. My dog's giving you a witness outside, judy. Love Judy so much. Share the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. It's a son, lest he be angry and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him. That's what God's called us to do, and so we don't need to be afraid about the outcome.

Speaker 2:

We do our part, we vote, and even though there's shenanigans going on and thousands of lawyers and fighting back and forth, people want to win, and yet God wants to install a person to be president of our United States and maybe your countries, in the midst of elections too, because I think he wants to change something. Whether or not Donald Trump becomes president or Kamala Harris becomes president, god's agenda of making fathers great again in the lives of their children and moms, empowering moms and families, restoring relationships it's atop of his agenda. I think that God is speaking to us and all those who follow Christ that we can't put somebody in the White House that does something that God hates, and God hates the murdering of innocent children. It's got to stop. How is it that we are the leading country in all the world and we have murdered so many children? We have gotten so much blessing, so much wealth, so many things, that as a country we're divided over an issue.

Speaker 2:

And even in the Church of Jesus, there are some people that I know that are followers of Jesus, they say, but they believe that that baby is not a human being until it's born and even after it's born it's a mother's choice. How wicked is that? I mean, it's totally wicked. And can we stand before God one day? And we're going to have to give an account for every decision that we made and even maybe the way we cast our vote, because we've got to cast them out of our value system for what God wants to do. We don't vote because of a personality of a person, and my trust is in the Lord moving that person to become your president More than I'm confident that that person has the capacity to do it. Without God, we still don't All of our lives being a father or being a mother, being a godly man or a single man or a single dad, to have the capacity that you need to really father your children.

Speaker 2:

In these days, at this time, there's never been more important time for you and for me that we need to get close to Jesus and follow him and walk kind of right in his steps, in everything he's leading us to do. That's your safest place. You might be just overwhelmed. I want to just talk about one other thing quickly. I don't want to take you too long, and I'm sure you're going to be over. You're going to be watching the results. Maybe you'll wake up in the morning and wait for them there. Maybe you're the kind of person that doesn't do an ultrasound to see what sexual behavior is and wait to the last minute. However, you want to do it. However you want to do it.

Speaker 2:

But I want to talk to you about how to take a couple of steps to restore relationship with friends or family members who maybe have ostracized you because you voted for, say, trump. Things a little bit more prevalent, unfortunately, from the liberal side of the ticket of the way they treat people who have voted for Trump, and your family's been split up. I've had to coach a number of families to get them back together, and so here's a couple of questions I want you to just take in. The first thing you've got to do is just get fueled up being with Jesus so that, no matter what they say, you can love them. You've got to love them. You don't have to agree with them, but you've got to love them and you've got to sort of pre-forgive them too, because some of you might feel that you're not going to do anything until they ask for forgiveness for the way you've treated them.

Speaker 2:

I've had moms throw their sons and their daughters out of their families because they end up going to a liberal school and decided to become a conservative, which should be a bad demand. That your children decide to believe something, to stand up for something, and so what happens is that the root of all of these things relationships happens is that the root of all of these things relationships, is an assault against we have a culture now that used to be that we could agree to disagree. How many of you have heard that before? We'll just agree to disagree. You could have a heated debate, but you're still family members, you still love one another, but it seems like politics has now moved up to the level of a personal identity. Well, you name yourself by your political party or what you believe.

Speaker 2:

Anytime you do that and you put on yourself a name that's not really authorized by God in heaven, because it limits you, it limits you and your scope of your friends and it elevates your opinion about politics and things above, sometimes loving that person that's right in front of you, being able to pray for them, be present and to share really the ultimate person for them to be following, which is Christ. And so I want you to ask a question in your own heart, whether you're conservative or liberal, or maybe you're watching me and you've been drinking the progressive cool and you've been protesting and your family is split apart. That's not God's way. That's not what God wants. And so when bitterness starts rousing his head inside of you and you have this kind of seething anger towards somebody and you hate him and you've never met him to somebody, and you hate them and you've never met them, I mean, how is it that we can make judgments against people that we hate when we see them, instead of understanding how broken they are and people know my heart and who I voted for. And when the other candidate gets online and she begins to talk for a while there, I was just like I can't even stand the sound of her voice, and then God began to reveal to me.

Speaker 2:

Just imagine how this girl is going to end her story standing before the Lord. God, when the enemies finish using her. She's been propped up by all these people. Hollywood has done its best job to make her out to be the hero of the day, but she's never had a role, and when the devil's finished with her, she'll be a mess. And if she loses the election, our job as followers of Jesus is not to beat her down or to beat down people that don't agree with us. Our job is to connect with people who think that there's something wrong with us. Well, there is. If you have Christ, you're no longer a stranger to the kingdom of God. You're no longer a sojourner, but you're one of God's beloved sons and beloved daughters.

Speaker 2:

But I want you just to think for a moment about how much of the anger and hate that you have towards maybe yours is against Donald Trump himself that you can't even bring yourself to voting for somebody like that. You don't like him. Well, when we do that, we give the vote away to somebody else and they get to choose for us. We let our neighbors choose who wins, and right now, we can still vote California. The polls are still open. If you're out West, I want you to just answer the question how much is this election affecting you as a mom or a dad, because your kids are watching.

Speaker 2:

And so our steps are clear in Scripture is that we hold to what is good and righteous. We make our choices, but when we're dealing with our neighbors we've got to love them. And there's only one way to love a neighbor or a family member back into a place. We need the supernatural help of God over our hearts, because there's parts of us who really love winning and hate losing. And if your party wins this election or your candidate wins, don't spike the football in front of your neighbors, for some of them maybe even yourself, might be severely depressed and need somebody to pray for them.

Speaker 2:

And so we got to cross the aisle. Maybe you're a Democrat, you got to cross the aisle. Maybe you're a democrat, you got to cross the aisle. That's a call of Jesus to be the light of the world, to love people and then not to separate. And back in Jesus' day there was only one political party the Roman government at the time was wicked the religious party of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. They had their own thing. It was in turmoil. In the middle of all that were all these people who were either slaves to one group or the other, and that was free from political tyranny, so that his people, from that moment on, would never be in bondage again. He did it. He came and God set the people of Israel free from Egypt. He wants to set you and I free so that we can have our best days. And yes, judy, with love, I have lunch with you. Thanks for the invite. Stand up now, 2022. Love you.

Speaker 2:

You want to get hats, you want to get clothing. I want you, by the way, brother, I want you to make me a whole bunch more of make fathers great again hat. I have been having them made, but I'm going to have you do it for me. Let's talk about a deal and just get those hats out for dads. We want to make fathers great again. All that to say. You have a tremendous opportunity tomorrow. Whenever the election's called the next day and the next day and the next day is to celebrate that you have a king. If he wants you to go to your neighbor or your family member and share the good news about what Jesus Christ can do, there's no politician under him.

Speaker 2:

I think the biggest mistakes that we can make is putting all of our hope and our trust in a political party that actually is underneath an authority. In the structure of the way God set up the world, he's made fathers and mothers first in authority. In authority, the church of Jesus has been raised up to churches to serve the family and teach them how to walk with God. And the government's ultimate job is to protect the church and the people of faith to my Jewish brothers and sisters of different faith, to protect them so they're free, and also to protect the family. And when tyranny raises up. Jefferson talked about it's time for the people of the Republic to have another revolution, but ours isn't supposed to be with guns. Ours right now is with love and with God's power. But to do that we've got to do two things. Number one we got to the great commandment. I love the Lord, our God, with all our heart, with all our mind with all our strength.

Speaker 2:

And then Jesus said and the second like it, but it's at number two position. We then love our neighbors as ourselves. You need to understand one of the strategies that the devil has against you if you're a follower of Jesus, and even the church of Jesus that's afraid to deal with all the social issues stays out of them, which is exactly what the devil wants us to do is to stay out of those things. And you know why? Because they made the second part of the commandment the most important part to love your neighbor as yourself. Love is enough. The problem with that is that love is usually selfish, human love For what we can get out of it, and we think that we're magnanimous because of the way we love people. But if we don't love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength first, we won't have his wisdom, his truth, his word and obedience to him as a foundation for love for our neighbors as ourselves. And so when you love your neighbors yourself, it's possible that some of our neighbors are kind of crazy, some of your family members are kind of crazy, and guess what? You're kind of crazy sometimes. We need to come back. So I want to pray with you. If you have a special prayer request, you can shoot that to me in the chat and then I'll let you get back to praying and checking out the election. But let's just give this to the Lord. If you have something to pray about, you can just shoot it in the chat to me. But I'll just start and tie this together.

Speaker 2:

Father, I just I'm so grateful, I'm so grateful to you that you came and you sent your son to die in our place so that we could receive you. And so we stand here, lord, we come together on election night and we ask you, lord, to forgive us for for looking too much at the election and not enough at you, and so we at you. And so we give you our fear, we give you our stress, we give you those things that have weighed us down, and we confess that to you, your sons and daughters. We love you. Forgive us for those things, lord. Forgive us for the way we treat people in the midst of this, but also forgive us, lord, for not standing up for righteousness when we have our moments and our chances. Forgive us for sitting in the back seat and letting other people lead out when you're calling us to rise up and be the moms and dads, husbands and fathers that we need to be.

Speaker 2:

Father, we give you this election, we give you the outcome. We pray that your light would come and that you would motivate your church and we would get a picture by the end of tonight and tomorrow or whenever they're finished counting at what the current state of their country is and where we can best use our time, energy and resources to make a difference. We trust you, jesus. You are our king and you laugh when nations rage and plot in vain against your beloved one. That's Psalm 2, father, and we're here for you, father, I pray for supernatural peace and direction and hope and blessing on all my friends that are watching. I thank you so much for their lives. I thank you for their moms and dads that we've been walking together for these months and you would bless them and speak to them and use them in powerful, powerful ways.

Speaker 2:

Oh, you're a good, good father. That's who you are, and so we worship you, we trust you and we give you this. It's too big for us to carry. In the name of Jesus, we pray, father, and all God's people said amen. Hey, thanks for being with you. I'm thankful to be with you, but thank you for being with me and this really important time.

Speaker 2:

We'll be talking about this, I'm sure, for years to come, the political diatribes are going to be all over the place. Amen. Amen to you, judy as well, and Father. Thank you for all my friends who've come. Thank you for your support. Some of you are supporting us financially. We keep some wheels on the bus and, father, thank you for all my friends who've come. Thank you for your support. Some of you are supporting us financially. We keep some wheels on the bus.

Speaker 2:

We have a whole brand new thing that we're doing called the Fatherhood Academy. We're ready to be re-released A training place for men and women to connect to God, the Father, in such a powerful way that they can make the same difference in their children and their grandchildren, and so you can learn about us on my website and go there and see. Right now we have free membership. It's going to be going away soon After the election. You can go to Father. I would love to work you with that and if you have some issues with your own dad and you want a resource to really help you kind of process through that relationship. I wrote a book called the Difference of Problems.

Speaker 2:

We want to do that as a gift tonight for you. You can get it digitally on Kindle and download it. You can go to our website at thefatherofdifferencecom and click on the link and it'll take you to a sign-up page and we'll send it right off to you. So grateful, and if you're in a place you want to add us to your support, your charitable support, we would love it.
