Christmas Hope For Fathers And Families

Wondering how a two-thousand-year-old story can still move a modern family? We walk through Luke’s Christmas narrative with clear eyes and open hands, tracing how God meets real people in real doubt and turns their ordinary lives into doorways of hope. From Zechariah’s stunned silence to Mary’s fearless yes, and from Elizabeth’s Spirit-filled blessing to shepherds startled awake under a sky of angels, every scene speaks to parents, grandparents, and mentors who ache for renewal at home.
We bring this home with a simple question: Who do you trust most with your future and your family? Screens train us to demand instant results, but God forms people in seasons, not seconds. Trust looks like small daily obedience—opening Scripture, blessing those who hurt us, praying for prodigals, and shaping a home where love and purpose outlast trends.
If this resonates, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review to help more families find this message. And if you’re ready to invest in this mission, consider partnering with us so we can equip more fathers and grandfathers to lead well for generations to come.

SPEAKER_01Hey, welcome. So before anybody else maybe says it to you, Merry Christmas. So excited about these next couple of days, as I have half of my grannies are descending upon her home. I have uh three in Switzerland and four in Tennessee that we got to see uh this year, just back from Tennessee, and uh here with my grandchildren. And we're gonna talk today, just uh just for a short time about this extraordinary, extraordinary story and all of its complexities that God did for our sake many, many years ago. And we're not going to go into all the aspects of the story, but I want to talk about kind of the key players in the book of Luke. And so if you've got your Bible, uh turn to Luke chapter one in the scripture. Uh, good to see you guys. I'd love to hear where you're from. That would be awesome. Would love to hear where you're from so we can welcome you here. And oh, good to see you, different friends of mine that are around the country, some outside of the country. I'd love to hear where you're from as well. That would be awesome. And hello to all of my friends and and those that are streaming in here to the special Christmas blessing for every generation. And so as we get ready to look at this story, open your Bible to Luke chapter one, and I just want to share with you five things and five interactions that this story unlocks for us at Christmas. Whether you're single, whether you're married, whether you're a mom or dad, single mom, single dad, grandma, grandpa, with your kids, away from your kids, and all things, this this the story that that God made for us was to open up something to heal something very deep inside of all of us and include us into this incredible uh story about Christmas. And so let's get into it. Turn to Luke chapter one. And and you you've if you've gone to a church service, maybe uh you're in California, a number of churches are not actually gonna do the Christmas Eve service because we have a big rainstorm hitting us here in California. That's like having 50 feet of snow for California. But it says in the days of Herod, king of Judah, there was a priest named Zachariah of the vision of Abinab and his wife from a daughter of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking blameless in all commandments in the statutes of the Lord, but they had no child because Elizabeth was barren and both were advanced in years. You know, the the Christmas story is all about those impossible places in us that God shows us throughout this entire story of the first Christmas that nothing is impossible with God. Do you have places in your life? Do you have things in your life that you have been impossibilities of things that you're still believing God for? Well, imagine Elizabeth waiting all this time. And so, you know, now he's serving as a priest, he's he's a guy in the church, Zachariat is, and is while he's there serving the Lord, that, you know, verse 10, and the whole company of people were outside praying at the hour of incense. And so he's in there, it's his turn to serve there. And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord stretching on the right side of the altar of incense. Now, you imagine going to church, and an angel shows up and uh stand at the right side of the altar of incense. And Zechariah was troubled. And when he saw him, fear falls on him, and the angel said, Don't be afraid. Maybe he thought he was going to be killed. And Zachariah says, For your prayers have been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son. Imagine getting an answer to a prayer request that you never thought was coming. But you're just faithful and you show up and you serve and you trust God, but you don't know. Don't be afraid, for your your prayers have been heard. And by the way, God hears every one of our prayers. We might not feel it, we not might not think it, but he hears every one of our prayers. He hears it, hears them all. And he said, Elizabeth will bear you a son, a son, not just a child, but a son, an heir. And you shall call his name John. Imagine hearing this from the angel of the Lord. And and look at his response, and you will have joy and gladness, not just you get them both, and he will be grateful for the Lord, and he must not drink wine or strong drink, for he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit. And see what you see in this whole Christmas story is the movement of the Holy Spirit through all the different lives and all the different reactions about this incredible story, even from his mother's womb. And he will turn the name of many in Israel to their God, and he will go before him in the spirit and the power of Elijah to turn the hearts of fathers to children and the disobedient of the wisdom to the just to make ready a people for the Lord. Now imagine having that level of there's no chance for a misinterpretation here. So Dakariah has been faithful and been there, all of a sudden his worship service is completely changed. The angels show up, and and in here, one of God's chief angels gives lets him know what's about to happen. And what does he do? How shall I know this? Isn't it amazing how quickly we step into those places in our life where we're like, how shall I know this in my own life? And you know, his he gives him the the calling of the Lord on him that he's gonna come in the spirit of Elijah and turn many of the hearts of the fathers of children. He shows him his calling, he shows them all the things he's gonna do. He's gonna not be an answer, he's gonna open the the God is gonna open the womb of Lizabeth his wife, who's been praying for a son, and in that culture in that day, to not have an heir, to not have any children, was seen as such an offense in culture. And yet her reproach from not having a baby was upon her. That was her prayer request every day. And she was in the modern day, she'd been in every fertility doctor. And so, in the midst of all this, you know, how shall I know this? Boy, isn't it true that every time God calls us to something, we take a personal survey of our own ability, and we measure the impossible thing that God calls us to through our own ability and how quickly we can discount ourselves and miss. For I'm an old man and my wife has advanced in years. And so, can you, I mean, didn't he know the scripture that this happened way back in the in the promised child? And and and Sarah laughed when she heard that that she was going to have a baby old in her life. And matter of fact, he would he would be the father of many nations. And so God's always about doing the impossible. And and his response is, well, how shall I know this? And see, the truth of the matter is that God's call in your life is not about your ability to complete it. We got to follow through and live by faith and trust Him, but it's about His working in us. See, the difference between Christianity in its purest form and all that, and it's it's not about us getting religious or making ourselves attractive to God and doing everything perfectly. And it's all about what his plan is in our life and how he's going to complete that. And so in this first story, he asks, How can this be? How shall I know this? I'm an old man and my wife in advance. And he answered the Lord, and and the angel of the Lord, Gabriel, says, I'm Gabriel, I stand in the presence of God. I mean, don't you know who just delivered the mail here today? Can you imagine getting rebuked by the angel of the Lord? And I was, you know, I and I was sent to you to speak to you and to bring you good news. And how sometimes we we we take the good news as bad news because we measure ourselves against what God has called us to do. That's what's so miraculous about following Jesus. And and just that his capacity to complete his work in us is not based on our capacity to do it, but on his. And so he goes on, and and Gabriel says, okay, and behold, instead of you having a great testimony to tell everybody about your son, you're going to be silent and unable to speak until the day these things take place. So he comes out from the presence of the Lord. I don't know if he had like little pixie dust on his eyebrows or his hair sort of changed white like Moses and the Ten Commandments. But he comes out of that encounter with the Lord, and he's unable to speak. And people, you know, and he said, the reason that happens because you did not believe my words. There's one thing that God always holds us accountable to is the things he promises us. And when we when we hold back and we don't believe them because we think, well, who how can God use somebody like me? Well, it could it it silences the testimony we could have of saying, let me tell you what what God did, even though I was broken. But see, God doesn't live leave him here, you know, and and and it goes on that they were waiting for Zachariah, and he comes out and he was unable to speak, and they realized that he had seen a vision. I don't know how they knew that. Maybe he had this look in his face of complete astonishment, probably still in his face. And he kept making, they kept he kept making signs of them. That's I think that's where Pictionary started. Sounds like, looks like, you know, he's he's trying to mime out what was happening. And he makes signs and and he remained mute. And when the time of the service had ended, he went through his home. Not even able to tell Mary. And after these days, his wife, Elizabeth, conceived. I don't know what what did he do? He goes home and you know, he said, you know, that guy spoke to me. You're gonna have a baby. And so it's just an incredible picture. And his wife conceived in five months, kept herself hidden. Thus the Lord has done for me in the days when he looked on me to take my reproach among God's people. Or the things that we don't receive is some kind of a pro reproach instead of an opportunity that God wants to come through in ways that we we have no idea. And in verse 26, you know, in the six months, the angel Gabriel, right? Hold on, let me go back here. The angel angel Gabriel was sent from God to the city of Galilee to Nazareth to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph. The house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary, and and he came to her and said, Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you. I mean, imagine, here's a 13, 14-year-old girl betrothed to a man. But she was greatly troubled at the saying and tried to discern what sort of greenness might be. The angel said, Don't be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God, and behold, you shall call on his and you shall call his name, and you will bear a son, and call his name Yeshua Jesus. And he will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. And he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom there will be no end. Imagine being fourteen years old and pregnant. You've never been with a man, and the angel of the Lord comes to let her know to uh prepare her to deal with the reproach, the hiddenness, the amazing questions. And Mary says to the angel, How will this be since I'm a virgin? She wasn't doubting, but she didn't understand how could how could this possibly happen to me? I've never been with a man. And the Holy Spirit answered, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the child will be will be called holy, the son of God. Imagine her hearing that. She's prayed for her cousin, who's uh pregnant with John, for nothing will be impossible with God. Gosh, I just love that. Don't you love that scripture? Nothing will be impossible with God. And isn't that the truth? And I love Mary's response here. Let me put it here in the notes. And Mary said, Behold, I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be to me according to your word. And the angels departed from her. So we have one player that God ends up redeeming as a father who says, How can this be? I'm old. And then Mary wants to know how this will happen to her. And upon hearing this word from the angel, she said, Let it be accord to me as according to your word. And those places of greatest breakthrough with us are those places when we hear something from God, we might not feel it or think it or believe that we have the capacity to do it. But we say, Lord, according to your word, I'll do this. Boy, that's that's what faith looks like. And here's another picture of how God takes an ordinary person and gives them an extraordinary extraordinary life. And so, you know, and and so Mary then she ends up writing a song. And you know, when she ends up going to her her cousin's house, and her, you know, her baby leaped, right? It says in verse 41, and when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby in her womb leaped. So when when do babies start? Way before they're born on earth. And when she heard that greeting, the Holy Spirit was moving, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit in that time, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Imagine two babies talking to one another. So when does life begin? Well, there's a picture of it right there. Picture of it right there. And she exclaimed, With all, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, and why it's just granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me. See, the Holy Spirit showed Elizabeth exactly who this baby was, and the mother of my Lord should come to me. For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, a baby in my womb leaped for joy, and blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord. It's amazing how God, you know, grabbed those two cousins together and used those two mothers to to be a part of changing the world with the baby babies that they carry. Mary Wrighteous incredible song. And I just want to, you know, s say this to you. It's is the truth is it's that nothing really isn't possible with God. Those things he initiates, those are the very things that he gives birth to in your life. Our job is to receive it. Our job is to also confess our doubt in the midst of it, but take steps to move towards it in our own life. And, you know, you know, when you know John, you know, John's father, you know, Zachariah, is he he can't really speak the name of his son, so he ends up writing it on a tablet. You know, they're wondering what the name of the baby is. And as soon as he writes it on the tablet, his mouth is open and is loose. And he spoke, blessing God. And fear came on all their neighbors, and all these things were talked about. All the hill country of Judea, and all who heard laid them up in their hearts, saying, What then will this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him. And it's just one of those incredible endeavements that God gives us as followers of Jesus. Even in the midst of our struggle, they'll see God with us. I remember years ago, just Ken Hutcherson, who is, you know, one of one of our great heroes in heaven. He was the pastor, he was a middle, one of the first black middle linebackers in the NFL, but he was a pastor of the Antioch Bible Church up in Seattle. And he had this preaching shirt on. We preached at a number of events together, and on the back of it, it had in writing the sinister minister. And what was so profound about his life is that God called him to do impossible things in his life. Like God called him, you know, the Dallas Cowboys to break through, and he became the first black middle linebacker in the history of the Dallas Cowboys, went on to Seattle, and he then planted a church, the Yanak Bible Church, in a you know, a mostly white neighborhood up in Seattle, and ended up being called by God to do many, many things. But he ended up getting cancer uh later on in his life. And I'll never never forget uh my conversation, uh conversation with him after an event we did together. And he looks at me with this fire in his eyes, and and he says, You know, it's been amazing going to the hospital every day and witnessing the power of Jesus' resurrection with the people that I meet. And I go there every day in the fire of the Lord, not because waiting to die, because this this cancer might get me on earth, but it won't get me eternally. But I made it my my goal to live my life in such a way that they would witness uh how a Christian dies in the Lord, although he never dies in Christ. And he witnessed, he led so many doctors to Jesus in the midst of his story. And nobody knows why the length and the breadth of his days, because God always weaves our story together for his ultimate purpose and blessing in using our life and our message of our life. And, you know, God, you never know what the length and the breadth of your story is. But one thing you can count on, you know, even in this Christmas story, is that God uses us completely through his timing, through his will, with all these incredible promises that we have. And what a blessing it is in our life to, because I don't know about you, but I've been Zachariah, where I've doubted in my capacity to do what God's asked me to do. How about you? I mean, there's all these different players in this incredible Christian story, Christmas story, and all of them are just incredibly marvelous. And, you know, because see, when when God uses us, even when we miss the boat, or we think we've missed the boat, he turns it into something marvelous in our life. And I just love that about this story. I mean, look look at all the players. And, you know, as soon as Zechariah's mouth is open, look what God does. He's filled with the Holy Spirit and starts prophesying. And he begins to prophesy this incredibly the long prophecy about all the things that God has done in his life in front of all of his friends. As far as we know, this is the only time in his life that anything like this has happened. And it moved him from somebody who was mute or felt like he blew it to somebody who is going to be written in scripture for those words that he spoke that day. And he was just as much a part of that story as his as his wife Elizabeth was in all of us. And so let's let's move on here to the next slide. And so, and I wanted to say this that because this is really true. Your struggle in your life, even in your doubt, gives the Holy Spirit an opportunity to work in your life. Have you noticed how God has weaved things together in your own story? The many, many years have gone. You might have kids right now that are struggling. And you're waiting for God to break through for them. And think about think about your own story. I mean, how many, how many touches did the Holy Spirit need to grab your heart? And we we many times we'll forget about those things in our life because we want our kids to be better than us. And yet they they go through the same crisis of faith that we do, they go through the same challenges, many times the same temptations that we do in our life. But the the point of this Christmas story for I mean for all of us, even those who doubt and are touched by God, there's a place for you in God's kingdom. And Zechariah had that moment, prophesied, pulled these scriptures out of the Old Testament, and really kind of walked in, and God connected him to the message of his son. I love that. And so, you know, when when God, you know, we we come to the birth of Jesus, and you know, all of a sudden he he adds in to this incredible Christmas story. I won't go into the timing of how long it took between the birth and them going to Bethlehem and all those things. But I want to just talk about the different people tonight. Here's a bunch of guys whose they have the lowest paying job you can get, and that is the night watchman of the sheep out in the midst of the cold, talking about lonely, talking about feeling passed over, talking about somebody with not much of a testimony, out and being faithful, like nobody sees me. Boy, the older we get many times, the more we feel like that. Because we're not young and hip and splashy like everybody else on social media, and we think, well, we don't matter much, and yet God weaves into this amazing story of the announcement of the birth of his son to a bunch of shepherds who were trying to stay awake, watching for the predators, and trying to keep sheep in line. And an angel said to them, fear not. Can you imagine the sky being opened up and they see a myriad of angels? For behold, I bring you good news of great joy that for will be for all people, for all the people. So imagine somebody who's never gone to church that we know of, no record of what their faith is, that the lowest job that nobody wants to do. They they, you know, they they were the immigrants of the land, possibly. A promise comes, for unto you is born this day in the city of David. The most important announcement of the birth of the Messiah to the world was to the overlooked, the hapless, the broken, the poor, born in the city of David, Bethlehem, who is Christ the Lord, and this will be a sign for you, and you will find him, find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. Now we have no idea if they knew anything from the word of God. But don't you think the Holy Spirit, He He knows exactly how to communicate this message. And, you know, and I found this is, you know, pastoring my church for years at Christmas time, it's really easy for many people to feel ostracized, marginalized. You know, there's a, you know, I give a shout out to the single dads that are out there that are maybe, you know, disconnected from their families. How about the single gals in college? Just one these amazing young leaders to be. Cassidy, good to see you. Many, there's Ray, one of my buddies, Ray, who is an incredible spiritual father to his nieces, and how God uses us, you know, in the lives of people in ways that we never thought that God could use us. We have the in the story, the young and the old, the found and the lost, the shepherds, the chosen ones. We're not going to get into the the three kings and and and all and their role in all this, but the the the greatest announcement to the world, the public announcement, besides what Mary treasured in her heart and what Zachariah discovered was made to these shepherds at the time of Jesus' birth, who is Christ the Lord, and he will be a sign for you, and you will find him rehab and swaddling clothes. And suddenly, as this was being spoken to them, there was with an angel a multitude of heavenly hosts praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace for those whom he has pleased. And you imagine talking about getting woke up in the middle of the night watching sheep. And so, why does God include them in this story? You'd think he would have gone to somebody with more broadcast ability. Because in the kingdom of God, everybody matters. There is no class of rich or poor, there's no class of royalty or pauper. In the kingdom of God, there's either sons or daughters. So it's not where you come from, it's about who you become in Christ. And what an incredible thing. And the truth of the matter is that God's timing is always perfect. It's perfect in your life, it's perfect in all the things that you're going through and all the promises that you're waiting for. I mean, one of the one of the fallacies or the it's very easy to get hooked into one of these devices is because we we have instant news available or instant YouTube videos or instant access to entertainment. It begins to train us that if we're not having instant breakthrough, then what's wrong with me? Because that's what it that's what it trains, live by the digital world. But God's made his flesh and blood. And he uses whom he chooses, and his timing is always perfect. And I just love this about uh this story that no matter what we've gone through, God's timing is perfect for you, God's timing is perfect for me. So, where do you find yourself this Christmas? Are you still waiting for the man of your dreams or the woman of your dreams or a young person? Are you still waiting for God to break through in your story? You're still waiting for that job that you've been dreaming about. You're still waiting. There are many things that we call to. And there's one message all the way through this Christmas story is that God made a way for you and I to be absolutely reconciled to him as sons and daughters, through the radical mercy he displayed when his son became a man, became a baby, and was born over 2,000 years ago. For you and for me, for our children. And so his plan was perfect. His plan was talked about. There's over 300 messianic prophecies throughout the Old Testament scripture speaking about Jesus. Matter of fact, that scripture was a quote from David, for unto us is born this day in the city of David, Christ the Lord. All those things God had planned. So his plans for you didn't just happen at the moment of your birth. The plans that he's got for your life have been in his heart since before he said, Let there be light. And so the way that we live out this message is in a single word. And it comes from a question: Who do you trust the most? For your future, for your story, for your family, for your wealth, your finances, for your gifts, for the output of your life, for your time on earth. The answer to who you trust the most. When I look at this Christian story, this amazing story of Jesus' birth, I'm brought back to the singular truth that when I trust him and I wait on him, and I'm faithful to do what he's asking me to do, his plan always comes through. Because he's weaved together a plan uh in his heart for all of us that when we live it, we're the most happy we can be. Matter of fact, we're it talked about how the the we are filled with a fullness of joy. And that's Christmas. And that's the hope around our family times. It's more than just a tree and more than the ornaments. It's all about God's plan for you, God's plan for your children. And and here's the the the the greatest Christmas present you can give your children this Christmas, or is the is the person you become. Because the person you become will help them have a road to how to get there. And what a powerful thing that is. For you, for me. And so I want to just uh bless you this Christmas. I'm so grateful that you're you're here and and so grateful that you've been watching us this year on one of our social media channels, from Rumble to TikTok to X, which is becoming my favorite, to Facebook, to all the different places wherever you come in. I'm so grateful that you've come and visited us. And I'm also grateful for those of you who have given to us and helped us spread this message and of father difference. And uh your your prayers and your support has enabled me to fulfill what God's made me for. And I'm so grateful to be here, to be a friend, to be in the race with you, to some you realize, well, if Ed can do this, so can I. Because I've made about every mistake you can make as a dad, as a grandpa. And God kind of puts me on display so that his greater purposes can come through. But I want to pray for you and your family this Christmas. Father, I pray for every uh grandpa and grandma and mom and dad and uncle and friend that's out there and single person that's out there, that you would bless them this Christmas in an extraordinary way. Bless them with your presence and the supernatural reality and power that you weave together to send your only son to be born of a virgin, to be born in our place, who end up living and dying on the cross for every sin that we've ever done or will ever do, so that we could know what forgiveness was like, and we can be free and be restored to you as your sons and daughters. I ask you to bless them, to be with them, to pour your mercy into them. I ask you to bless their families. I pray, Lord, that you would bring their families back together that have been separated in the name of Jesus. I pray for those families that have been separated because children have cut off their grandmas and grandpas from their own kids. And I pray, Lord, that you would fix that in the name of Jesus. And bless Grady and his precious wife as you use them in ministry to help grandparents reconnect with grandchildren that have been separated from them. I pray, Lord, that you would heal the family, that you would come and you would pour your spirit upon all of the families, Lord, and reunite us, Lord, with our neighbors, with our friends, and with people who have become our enemies. Use this Christmas in a profound way to make this message about what God did to reconcile us to Him. For unto us is born in the city of David, a Savior, Christ Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen. Merry Christmas. We're going to be back together. I think we're going to have one show next week, and then we're going to be uh back together after the new year. I'm so grateful for you uh being a part of our ministry, especially to uh those who participate. You show up every week. We got new friends, and I ask you, Lord, to bless everyone.
SPEAKER_00Dear friends, imagine a world where every father feels equipped to lead with faith, love, and purpose. A world where families thrive and communities grow stronger because of devoted, Christ-centered fathers.
SPEAKER_01You know, beloved, that is the vision that God's put in my heart for every single family. You know, he is on the move, I believe. He promises in Malachi that before the great and coming day of the Lord, he's going to do something profound. He's going to turn the hearts of fathers back towards their children. So the hearts of their children will turn back to their father. That's what God is doing. I meet dads daily who want to learn to be better fathers. Yet many have never been shown how. Too many families are being fractured through bitterness and with parents and grandparents even being canceled. That's why we're launching an online community to quit men to be the fathers that God has called them to be. It's more than a program, it's a part of a movement that God is already doing to reshape fatherhood as a sacred calling rooted in the teachings of Christ. And we're calling this the Fatherhood Academy, where men will embark on a journey of healing and spiritual restoration that helps them transform their family relationship. And to make this vision a reality, would you consider partnering with us financially as we continue to reach and disciple every man, dad, and grandpa that comes our way? Your donation will help create a ripple across the neighborhoods, communities, you know, and ultimately our nation, anchoring each child here's a vision in the unwavering love and guidance of a devoted dad.
SPEAKER_00Will you partner with us? Your gift, whether a one-time donation or ongoing monthly support, will help to transform lives.
